The Islamabad women’s team clinched the trophy from the Peshawar team after a spirited battle

The inaugural Unity Cup, a T20 cricket match between the women’s teams of Peshawar and Islamabad, brought the spirit of empowerment and unity to the National Cricket Ground in Islamabad. Both teams performed exceptionally, exhibiting their skills with impressive boundary hits. Ultimately, the Islamabad women’s team clinched the trophy from the Peshawar team after a spirited battle.
Hosted by the Institute of Research and Reforms International (IRR) in collaboration with the Rehman Malik Foundation under the leadership of Mr. Ali Rehman MaliK, the Unity Cup exhibited the power of sports to inspire women and unite communities.
Mr. Ali Rehman Malik, Chairman of IRR International and Rehman Malik Foundation expressed his delight at the event’s significance, stating, “The Unity Cup exemplifies our commitment to empowering women and fostering solidarity among our people, a message that resonates deeply in these challenging times.” He stated that he is continuing the legacy of his late father, Senator A. Rehman Malik, by advocating for women’s empowerment, minority rights, and the welfare of marginalized communities.
As the Peshawar and Islamabad women’s teams battled it out on the field, spectators were treated to a spectacle of skill and determination. Umar Rehman Malik, the head of PPP Digital Media Islamabad, appreciated the initiative, highlighting the talent and capabilities of young women champions from Islamabad and Peshawar. He said that in a moment of unity, players from both teams came together to symbolize the shared spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie, reinforcing the message of inclusivity and harmony that the Unity Cup represents.
Riaz Ali Turi, Director at IRR International, emphasized that the Unity Cup celebrated women’s cricket while also highlighting the importance of women’s empowerment and unity. He said that this is a first-of-its-kind cricket match between Islamabad and Peshawar women and IRR International is committed to organizing such events in future.
Chairman IRR International, Ali Rehman Malik, announced a cash prize for the Women of the Match, Kalsoom Zair Gul and Hanya Manson for their outstanding performance.
Ali Rehman Malik reiterated the significance of the Unity Cup, expressing his commitment to organizing similar events across the country to engage women in productive activities and promote peace and unity.
